Why the IRA consolidation is late

Reason. The receiving custodian rejected the first transfer form because of a signature mismatch. Rebecca Stroud sent a corrected form for Anne to sign and logged the delay against the decision. Consequence. The two IRAs stay separate until the custodian accepts a corrected form, so the review packet reports this decision as open on October 15, not complete. The consolidation has waited 41 days. Owner and next step. Rebecca Stroud: Anne signs the corrected form, then Rebecca submits it before the October 15 review.

How a decision moves

Every decision follows the same path. It waits in one of two places, with the household or with a third party such as a custodian, and returns to In progress when the item arrives. A decision that waits more than 14 days gets a written reason and a named owner on this record.

Waiting on household
Complete
  • Recorded: Owner named
  • Requested: Work started
  • In progress: Quillfield does the work
  • Waiting on household: A signature or a document
  • Complete: Adviser confirms

The highlighted step is where the IRA consolidation sits today. A decision can also wait with a third party, and it returns to In progress when the item arrives.

Where the three decisions stand today:

  • Raise the monthly distribution: Complete. - Update beneficiaries on all accounts: Complete. - Consolidate two IRAs: Waiting on household, with the corrected form to sign.

The count below shows how many of the three decisions are complete.

The note below explains the delay in plain terms, in the words Rebecca and Thomas will use at the review.

A decision is finished when the work is done. If it is late, the reason and the owner belong on the record next to it, where the household can read them.
