Owner: Tobias Rennert. Updated Oct 1, 2026.
The routing brief for the nine exceptions raised in the August close: who reviews each open one, when a response is due, and the Fig and Fennel sales tax mismatch of $1,340 that circulated for 6 days before anyone owned it. Prepared by the Tallgrove close lead for the reviewers and for the morning stand-up. It is updated each morning and read out at the stand-up. Issued Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The grid shows when each exception was raised. The busiest week was Sep 14, with four exceptions across Harbor Table, Copper Kettle, Fig and Fennel and Saltmarsh Grill. Fig and Fennel and Copper Kettle each raised one in the week of Sep 21.
Exceptions resolved, 6 of 9
Every open exception has one named reviewer. The reviewer decides the treatment and the correcting entry. The client accounting manager routes and keeps the queue but does not decide treatment.
decides treatment and entry for each
Six exceptions are resolved: one at Pennock Holdings, two at Harbor Table, and one each at Copper Kettle, Fig and Fennel and Saltmarsh Grill. The three still open are below, each with its entity, account, source, reviewer and response date.
| Entity | Account and issue | Source | Reviewer | Response due | State |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fig and Fennel | Sales tax liability, mismatch of $1,340 | Accounting ledger | Celeste Deverell | Due Sep 28, approve at the next stand-up | |
| Copper Kettle | Cash, deposits in transit for the week of Aug 24, tied to the $6,400 difference | Point-of-sale deposit report | Celeste Deverell | Oct 6 | |
| Saltmarsh Grill | Payroll evidence, register outstanding 20 days | Payroll register | Celeste Deverell | Oct 6 |
Open means the exception is not yet closed by the reviewer. The close status for an entity changes only after the reviewer approves.
These rules decide who gets an exception and by when. They are applied the morning an exception is raised.
Unowned for 6 days: Fig and Fennel sales tax mismatch of $1,340
A sales tax liability mismatch of $1,340 at Fig and Fennel circulated for 6 days without an owner. The bookkeeper and the payroll specialist each passed it back, because neither saw it as theirs. The close checklist still showed Fig and Fennel as in progress while it moved around. What it cost. Six days of the Fig and Fennel close with an unreconciled liability and no one to ask. What changed. Tobias Rennert assigned it to Celeste Deverell as reviewer. She decided the treatment and the correcting entry the same day, and the Fig and Fennel sales tax entry is in Review. Rule from now on. No exception waits past the next stand-up without a named reviewer.
Both of them looked at it and both were right that it was not theirs. The routing rule exists so that someone with authority is named before the second look.
The chart compares exceptions raised per entity in the July close and the August close. Pennock Holdings and Harbor Table held steady. Copper Kettle fell from 3 to 2. Fig and Fennel and Saltmarsh Grill stayed at 2 each. The total fell from 10 in July to 9 in August.
Fewer exceptions is not the goal by itself. The test is whether each one that is raised reaches a named reviewer quickly.
Source. Accounting ledger, sales tax liability account. Ask. Celeste Deverell approves the correcting entry, which is in Review. Tobias Rennert then updates the entity close status.
Source. Point-of-sale deposit report, week of Aug 24, exported by day instead of by deposit. Ask. Tobias Rennert obtains the deposit-level report and asks Pennock to confirm the deposit dates by Oct 6. Celeste Deverell then decides the adjusting entry.
Source. Payroll register, requested from the general manager and outstanding 20 days. Ask. Tobias Rennert sends the request to the general manager directly with a copy to the office manager, due Oct 6. Celeste Deverell reviews the payroll evidence when it arrives.
